Why do you need a personal brand?
Your Personal Brand is what makes you unique from everyone else. How do people describe you? What do you want to be known for? Your personal brand is what you stand for – it is the way you present yourself, how you act and how you speak. And it contributes to your business reputation too!
So why do you need a personal brand?
A personal brand is increasingly important due to social media. Consumers have the ability to find out everything about a company – including it’s owners. In today’s media savvy environment it is important to be transparent and show who you are. People want to do business with other people, not companies. As you already know, your company’s brand and reputation are the most important elements for success – and now your personal brand directly influences your company’s brand.
Consumers are used to seeing advertising everywhere and often feel that companies are only after their money. An effective personal brand is increasingly important as modern consumers are more likely to trust an individual than a corporation. Your personal brand allows you to establish trust through personal interaction.
How do you create a personal brand?
First of all you need to define why you need a personal brand and what your brand looks like: Are you looking to become a leader? Does your business reflect your brand? If so, will a personal brand enhance your business and help it grow? What area are you an expert in? How do you want people to describe you?
Next, you need to understand that you are a living brand. You have a target audience and need to apply your unique perspective and voice when communicating with them. Clarifying your audience will help you determine the best medium and tone with which to communicate.
Thirdly – get out there! Network in person and online. Flesh out your social media profiles including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and make sure they are in line with your personal and business brand standards. Post consistently and authentically, and if you’re trying to win business it is a good idea to work up a few case studies to provide tangible evidence of how you have helped previous customers.
So, whether you’re a small-business owner or a solo entrepreneur, you need to pay attention to your personal brand.
Like it or not, we all have a personal brand, but not everyone manages theirs strategically. Whatever type of business you run, don’t leave your personal brand to chance.
It doesn’t matter if you use your personal brand to consult, freelance, or drive more traffic and trust to your business, it is important to establish one to stay competitive.
